Greetings!

My name is Mr. Brent Watts, and I am excited to take the reins as the new principal of Hampton L. Daughtry Elementary School.

I am originally from Jackson, Georgia. I attained a bachelor’s degree from Albany State University, a master's degree from Valdosta State University and an educational specialist degree from Lincoln Memorial University. I have spent the last 15 years working in the field of education.

I believe that all students deserve a quality and equitable educational experience. All students can learn and acquire the skills that we as educators provide for them; however, it is our duty to design strategies that are conducive to their varied learning styles and learning levels. At Daughtry Elementary, we will be intentional in our pursuit of a diverse and inclusive school with a commitment to student learning and achievement. Daughtry will remain a positive, inviting, and cohesive place where students can achieve their highest potential.

Not only am I excited about the work that we will do with children, I am also excited about the work we will do together. As principal of Daughtry Elementary, I am committed to the academic growth of all students. I will work collaboratively with the leadership team, teachers, parents and staff to maintain a working environment of mutual respect and trust. It is my goal that we foster an environment at Daughtry in which students enjoy coming to each and every day, a place where students are ready and learning becomes an experience that propels them through the remainder of their lifelong learning.

Somewhere I read that in Ancient China, a family was regarded as cultured and sophisticated if their home smelled of books.

Each and every book I own contains pages from my life. They serve as markers of my professional and intellectual development, my likes and dislikes and the many courses I took along the bends and curves leading me back home to become the principal of Daughtry Elementary. These books sometimes shout of things long forgotten. They remind me by their covers and their scent of proud, joyous, bittersweet, poignant and triumphant moments. They have earned my respect and companionship- even the ones I have yet to read.

With each passing day, I am discovering more and more great things about the Butts County School System (a system that I will forever hold dear to my heart). The more I discover, the prouder I become. I am proud not only of the accomplishments of yesteryear, but also of the academic success of recent years. I heartily applaud those accomplishments. Please realize that this is no time for resting on past laurels. We must look to the future with an intense focus on how we can continue the legacy of “Providing learning and lifelong experiences that maximize the individual potential of all students so they are prepared for a productive future.”

With all sincerity, I look forward to working alongside you as we continue to nurture our young learners.

Students First,

Mr. Watts
